The Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer – A MUST HAVE MIRACLE!!!!

I hesitated a long time before buying a concealer because I was someone who never had even a spot of darkness under my eye, right through ten years of late night shoots, harsh shooting lights and poor sleep! But, since the last few years, health issues and a truck load of medicines later, faint dark circles started to appear and I knew I had to cover them up. But which was the best one out there? And considering I travel a lot and presently located at a very humid place, I needed to prep my research a lot.

That was when, for the first time, I chanced upon a creamy concealer and not a liquid (for sure a liquid would run down my cheeks as I was applying it, considering where I currently live). And what better bran than Bobbi Brown? My all time favourite brand!!!

Though it was expensive, I didn’t flinch even for a second to buy it, because of the trust I have in the brand. The moment I put it on, my dark circles just seemed to vanish.

My dark circles are blue/green, and a little bit of this concealer comes a long way. Instant coverage and I just need to set it in place with a translucent powder and top it with my setting powder, and Voila! I am so sorted for the entire day!!!!! It doesn’t break out, doesn’t dry out my skin and it doesn’t even bleed! How awesome is that?

It’s in fact a lot more creamy than it appears. I always prep the skin around my eyes with a Bobbi Brown eye cream and then apply this creamy concealer. Just works wonders and cooks your skin as well. If any of you feel you need even more coverage, you can always top this with a liquid concealer and seal it in. But, honestly, I never felt the need for it.

And the best part is, it doesn’t irritate the skin or give out any rash or cause any dryness. You are still left with your soft skin by the end of the day. And this is one tiny product that will last you quite long, thanks to its creamy texture.

The product is also packaged in an extremely travel friendly box and size. You can just pop it into your handbag even when you step out daily. Doesn’t spill and doesn’t create a mess! So go ahead and buy it ladies!

It’s available online in India on Nykaa at INR 2700 and has 8 shades to choose from.

How To Make Your Sulphate Shampoo Less Harsh?

Sulphate shampoos (literally every shampoo that ever existed!) can be really drying to any kind of hair. Curly, wavy, straight etc doesn’t matter. And if you are someone like me who has very coarse, thick hair ( I am a 2c and 3a curl type ), then you are in for a whole lot of damage!

Over the years, I have always straightened my hair as I just had no patience to put up with the CG (curly girl) method of taking care of my curls, owing to my profession. And my hair is way too thick and full of frizz. So, taming it down is another hurdle to cross, altogether.

The main step where all of us go wrong is in our shampoo. Yes, you read it right! How can literally every shampoo that shows gorgeous women and men sashaying away be harmful? Well, that’s because they all contain sulphates! Sulphates are in short, nothing but detergents and hence, the tons of lather produced while we shampoo. Sulphate free shampoos are very expensive and also rare to source in India. Every drugstore or supermarket doesn’t really store them and having to depend on online sites is sometimes a bane.

Well, here are a few things you could do, to tone down the harshness of your sulphate shampoo:-

1) Dilute shampoo with water

The age old remedy that your mother must have always told you as a child! Take some shampoo and mix it in water in a mug and shampoo away! This way, not only does your shampoo last longer, but it also works out to be less harmful.

2) Oil your hair well before a shampoo

Just like mixing shampoo with water reduces the harshness of a shampoo, oiling your hair thoroughly before a shampoo reduces the harshness of the shampoo and it even lathers very less. My favourite oil has and will be olive oil only! But you can use even coconut or almond oil. If it’s virgin oil, even better. It gives amazing results to your hair.

3) Mix shampoo with honey and aloe vera gel

A simple homemade mixture of equal parts of honey and aloe vera gel can be mixed with your shampoo to prevent your hair from drying and also making it frizz free.

The above are all easy and cheaper versions of almost close to a sulphate free shampoo, made at home. It’s pocket friendly and less painful to source.

Let me know how you guys have liked this article. If you guys have any more points to add, do let me know.

Till then, ta-da!

P.S:- My all time favourite sulphate free is Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. Since it’s made for babies, you can be assured of its safety and as an adult you can use it too!!!!

Pre – Diwali Beauty Tips….

It’s pre-Diwali time, which means it’s time for you to spend a little time making yourself look good. The excitement of the festival may not give you time to go out and spend long hours at a spa or salon. Hence, I am putting together a few simple tips that you can follow right from the comfort of your home and still look like a diva!

Tip #1 Cleansing

Leave your regular cleansing routine aside for a few days. As a Diwali special, swap your cleansing milk for rose water and honey. Apply a mix of turmeric and some milk to your face and wash off in 2 minutes to give your face that natural, golden glow.

Tip #2 Scrub

Gently massage your skin with an organic scrub and let the fresh skin lying hidden underneath come to the surface. Mild scrubs are safe and can be used 2-3 times a week depending on the need. This leaves your skin soft and supple. Something as simple as a mixture of oats and milk can be used to exfoliate your skin and the results are fantastic!

Tip #3 Face pack

Use a face pack to renew your facial skin. Fresh fruit facials are awesome and work wonders for your skin. Try banana and apple mashed and mixed with honey. Works wonders!

Tip #4 Hydrate your skin

After the face pack, refresh your face by rubbing in ice cubes gently. This helps in sealing in the moisture into your skin.

Tip #5 Hydrate from within

The biggest tip ever! Always drink plenty of water and limit the intake of fried and oily foods. The water will keep your skin fresh and give it a healthy glow. Nothing works greater wonders than this.

Tip #6 Oil-based moisturiser

Oil-based moisturisers are better than water-based ones as they retain moisture, and at the same time are not as heavy as creams. But, if you have an acne prone skin go in for water based moisturisers and if your have an oily skin, then go for ones that soak up the excess oil.

Tip #7 Choose the right make-up

Use waterproof mascara and eyeliners and kajals. Transfer-resist lipsticks are a must. This is to avoid smudging of the makeup and thus prevent unsightly stains. But, always remember to remove your make-up at night. Waterproof products are tough to remove and need little extra care. Use almond oil or coconut oil to remove eye make. It works wonders.

Today’s review is about L’Oreal’s new launch, the Extraordinary Clay Purifying and Hydrating Shampoo. It boasts of being silicon-free and is apparently filled with three different kinds of clay.  This is a range of shampoo, conditioner and a masque. I picked up the shampoo for myself and used it today. While I checked online, this product has been available abroad for a while and it has stepped into India only now and is just a few days old!

INR 150 for 175ml

Product Description:
• Extraordinary Clay
• 72 hours of deeply purified roots and hydrated ends

The L’oreal experts have a theory about our scalp and that being:-
• Oil produced from the scalp can build up causing the roots to become visibly greasy, weighing down the hair.
• Over-washing to combat this problem can strip the fiber of the hair leaving it dry.

By using this shampoo, the scalp feels deeply purified for 72 hours with freshness and light, lifted roots. Your dry hair feels hydrated right to the ends and it revitalizes the hair with softness, shine and bounce.

My Experience with L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay Shampoo:

The fragrance is really nice and mild. What really intrigued me was the turquoise blue packaging and it does stand out in your shelf. The fragrance doesn’t last long though.

My scalp and hair definitely feel clean after use.  I really hope it stays fresh for three days as the claims so that I can postpone my hair wash. Another bonus is that it is silicone free. The usage of this product hasn’t caused any kind of itchiness as I have a highly sensitive scalp.

I really need to wait for a few days to make sure this product works according to its claims and depending on that would decide if I will buy this again in the future.
